The layout of the map is comprised of dark blocks and dark grey glass, giving the area a dark feel. The background consists of a gradient of blue with white or, in the case of the second segment, orange.
Checkpoint 1 introduces new interesting types of obstacles.
Within the first segment the player finds many moving columns. Although some appeared in the second segment of the Introductory stage, they appear in much larger numbers here, and can carry either crystals or glass boxes. The second segment also introduces special DNA strands, and the third introduces swinging glass blocks.
Just like the Introductory stage, Checkpoint 1 contains three segments. The second segment, however, is twice as long as the other two.

||Within this segment, moving columns are encountered which may have either crystals or glass boxes atop them. Sliding glass walls also appear every so often, preceded by a field of moving columns adorned with crystals. In a number of cases some glass boxes and sliding glass walls are unable to hit the player.||Normal||–||1|
||In this segment DNA strands of glass can be found. These usually appear standing alone vertically or in groups diagonally. DNA groups will come with a crystal. Vertically and horizontally moving glass bars also appear. Occasionally, a door like structure appears made of moving columns, along with a row of three crystals.||Normal||–||1|
||The third segment contains numerous swinging glass blocks, which appear either square- or rectangular-shaped. Some cannot be hit. Crystals appear every so often, placed on immobile ground or on moving columns. An Infinite Ball power-up is found at the start.||Normal||
- Checkpoints 1 and 4 are the only checkpoints in which all the soundtracks found in their segments are found elsewhere.
